Leeds United in hunt to sign Lyon defender Maxwel Cornet after June bid
According to a report from Olympique et Lyonnais, Leeds United are ‘interested’ in signing Maxwel Cornet from Lyon.
The French news outlet, followed by Lyon on their Twitter profile, claim that the Whites have been ‘interested’ in Cornet for a few months and made an offer of 12million Euros [£10.23million] a few weeks ago, which was not deemed enough by the Ligue 1 side.
The report also states that the site have acquired their own ‘information’ on Leeds’ interest in Cornet.
Would he be a worthwhile signing?
The energetic 24-year-old is predominantly a left-winger, but he can also play as a right-winger or a left-back. So if the Whites were to sign him, you would think one of either Jack Harrison or Raphinha would have to make way to accommodate Cornet – unless they use him as left-back.
It is hard to know if Marcelo Bielsa would be willing to do this, but Cornet is an excellent player.

Cornet is a senior international with the Ivory Coast, making 21 appearances and scoring four goals since his 2017 debut.
He has also played over 251 times for Lyon, a prestigious club in France, scoring 51 goals.
During the 2018/19 season, after two games against Manchester City, Pep Guardiola admitted that he was ‘very impressed’ by Cornet [Teller Report].
If he is good enough for Guardiola, then surely he is good enough for Leeds?
If the Whites want Cornet, then they should go all out to sign him because of his versatility and the fact he has delivered in big games for Lyon in the past.
However, if the Whites really want him, then you would think they are going to have to raise their bid as Lyon are not going to accept the current offer.
