Leeds United interested in Club Brugge winger Tajon Buchanan, Belgian outfit demanding £26.6m

Leeds United are one of several English teams interested in signing Club Brugge winger Tajon Buchanan with the Belgian outfit setting a price tag of £26.6m, according to Calciomercato.

The 24-year-old proved one of the breakout stars at the World Cup in Qatar, showcasing some of his electric talents for Canada throughout the group stages.

The attacker, now under the stewardship of former Fulham and AFC Bournemouth manager Scott Parker at the Belgian club, is reportedly attracting a lot of interest from Europe.

The report in Calciomercato [17 February] claims that Inter Milan are interested in the former New England Revolution attacker to replace Denzel Dumfries, but they face competition from “the usual” Leeds for the right-winger.

Brugge are “asking for €30m” for the Canada international, but the belief is that a deal could be done starting at “around €25m”, likely with bonuses on top.

Really need him?

Buchanan is an incredible talent and will be a huge asset to any European side, but it’s unlikely that he’d choose Leeds United over Serie A side Inter Milan who are consistently challenging the elite both domestically and in Europe.

However, there’s a case to argue whether the Whites really need the Canadian speedster.

The club have a plethora of attacking talents right now with the likes of Wilfried Gnonto, Luis Sinisterra, Brenden Aaronson and Crysencio Summerville in their weaponry and signing Buchanan certainly won’t make any sense, with there being the potential to just be sitting on the bench.

The Whites certainly won’t be spending under £30m for a player not first choice in the squad, having done so for Georginio Rutter who is yet to start in the Premier League since his January move.

There are other areas in the squad that need addressing which means the club should steer clear of this deal.
