Leeds United interest in Valentín Castellanos could make Patrick Bamford stance clear
Leeds United have been linked with two strikers in recent weeks and if reports are to be believed it displays clearly what Jesse Marsch thinks of Elland Road mainstay Patrick Bamford.
It had been claimed by 90min on 10 June, that Leeds are chasing New York City FC’s Argentinian striker Valentín Castellanos.
The 23-year-old striker joins Blackburn’s Ben Brereton Diaz in being linked to a move to Yorkshire after it was revealed by TEAMTALK on 1 June that Diaz was made a transfer target by the Whites.
These two links with strikers have perhaps laid bare what Marsch thinks of 28-year-old Bamford after an injury-hit season for the long-serving striker.
Firstly, Marsch is evidently looking at younger options up front and that could see Bamford play more of a bit-part role in the 2022/23 season.
Bamford has been excellent for Leeds after signing for the Whites in 2018.

However, this season has seen the striker’s form and career stall somewhat with injuries causing Bamford plenty of issues in what is the prime of his career.
The 28-year-old is unlikely to improve any further and it is clear Marsch is trying to pinpoint the ideal long-term replacement for Bamford.
Bamford is contracted to Leeds until the summer of 2026 so it is extremely unlikely that Marsch will be looking to move the England international on.
Leeds would still be in a position to command a decent fee for the striker and it is also unlikely that anyone will come in for the 28-year-old striker after his 2021/22 season.
It would not be a surprise to see the striker play more of a squad player role this season if Leeds do secure a deal for Castellanos or Diaz.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are on the verge of another new signing for Marsch’s senior side.
