Leeds United interest in Marc Roca could drop hint on Kalvin Phillips Elland Road future

Leeds United have been linked to Bayern Munich’s “elegant” Spanish midfielder Marc Roca – and that could well have dropped a hint on Kalvin Phillips’ future.

As revealed by The Athletic on Thursday [9 June], the Whites have turned their attention to the 25-year-old midfielder after securing a deal for RB Salzburg full-back Rasmus Kristensen.

With the Daily Mail revealing on 8 June that Manchester City are set to contact Leeds about Phillips, it makes sense to put two and two together in this situation.

The Whites hierarchy will never admit that they’re looking at Roca as a potential replacement for Phillips, but ultimately, there does need to be a realisation that it is unlikely the 26-year-old will be at Elland Road beyond the summer.

Sadly, when Manchester City come calling, they usually get what they want.

What’s good is that Leeds are active in the transfer market, so any move away for Phillips can be easily rectified with smart, quick and efficient business.

Phillips is at a stage of his career where he really needs to test himself at the highest level of club football and not just on the international stage.

He has proven that he can compete amongst the best for England, it is time for him to experience Europe’s best club competition.

A footballer’s career is short and sadly for Phillips, he won’t have many more chances to secure a big money move after this summer.

Every footballer’s aim is to play at the highest level and win trophies and no Leeds United fan would begrudge the midfielder if he did make the move to the Etihad.

If he moves to Manchester, as long as he has a sky blue shirt on all will be okay.
