Leeds United injury update as Graham Smyth shares instant Ethan Ampadu reaction

Graham Smyth has revealed the “good news” that Ethan Ampadu is back in Leeds United training after Daniel Farke’s press conference.

Speaking ahead of the Whites’ clash against Derby County on Saturday (7 December), the German shared that his captain is back on the grass at Thorp Arch.

Writing on X, Smyth has shared his delight that the Wales international is already back from what looked like a long-term injury setback.

He said: “Ethan Ampadu back in team training and Daniel Farke is already mulling over using the midfielder earlier than anticipated. Good. News.”

Ethan Ampadu back in Leeds United training

The 24-year-old suffered an injury blow back in September and was seen punching the ground in frustration despite a 3-0 win against Coventry City.

This could have had more of a damaging effect on the Whites but Joe Rothwell and Ao Tanaka have stepped up to excellent effect.

Even with the being on top form, having Ampadu back could prove to have an excellent impact on Farke’s side in their hunt for promotion.

The Welshman will bring defensive stability to the midfield at Elland Road while also allowing the forward options in the squad to flourish.

As a result, welcoming him back as soon as possible could help Leeds move up the table with them currently sitting third in the Championship.

With that being said, Farke will be keen to manage his return to first-team action after suffering an injury which has ruled him out for too long already.

There is a fine balance to be struck but there is plenty of times coming up for his return to be a slow integration.
