Leeds United: Injury news from Thorp Arch after new Charlie Crew update

By Stephen Kountourou

Leeds United prospect Charlie Crew has had to withdraw from international duty with Wales U21s.

According to the Wales National Team X page, U21s coach Matt Jones announced that Crew will be one of three players who are no longer available for international duty.

Crew, who has played 16 times in all competitions for Leeds U21s this season, was one of many who gained praise from Daniel Farke when asked about the youth coming through at Thorp Arch.

Speaking via the Yorkshire Evening Post (7 March) Farke said: “Obviously we still have an eye on the development and there are definitely one or two players who also caught our eye and we are pretty, pretty careful on following them. But I don’t want to speak too much about names otherwise they would have too much weight on their shoulders.

“Yes, one of them who caught our eye is at the moment also a bit injured. Perhaps you can guess a bit, but I don’t want to put too many names in public.”

While he did not name Crew, Farke gave a huge indication as to who he was referring to.

The Yorkshire Evening Post had previously reported that Crew was set for a return from a minor injury but a fresh setback may keep the 17-year-old out for longer than expected.

Crew will miss Wales’ crucial Euro U21s qualifier against Lithuania on the 22nd of March, in their bid to qualify for the European U21s Championship in 2025 in Slovakia.

The young midfielder has already been described as a “Prodigy” coming through the ranks since signing from Cardiff [Yorkshire Post].

There have been many instances of young talented footballers being hampered by injuries and never quite reached their potential, something everyone will hope doesn’t happen to Crew after another blow.

With an international break to recover now, hopefully, the young midfielder can recover in time and have a strong end to the season in West Yorkshire.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have already started scouting a defender who plans to return to England in the summer transfer window.
