Leeds United injury news: Doctor issues Wilfried Gnonto update

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Leeds United...

Leeds United attacker Wilfried Gnonto is unlikely to be at a 100 per cent despite returning to action from an injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that the Italy international risked being out for months as well if it was a Grade 4 rupture in his hip.

However, due to his injury-ravaged season, the attacker might not be fully fit to play full matches week in and week out.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, said about Gnonto:

He’s now back in the groove after being out with a hip flexor injury for a few weeks and that’s an indicator it was close to the best case scenario which would be a Grade 2 injury as he returned relatively soon.

On the other hand, initially, he ran the risk of the worst case being a Grade 4 rupture and multiple months out.

While he played over 70 minutes recently, it’s unlikely that he’s at a 100 per cent given the kind of season he’s had.

Leeds will be hoping that the 20-year-old keeps up his fitness for the rest of the season and also signs a new deal.

He was the talk of the town in the summer and subject to interest from clubs in the Premier League.

Eventually, the Italian stayed put at Elland Road but struggled to make a telling impact on Daniel Farke’s side.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites could now move fast to sign a West Ham defender with just a few negotiation points left to iron out.
