Leeds United injury news: Doctor issues update on Karl Darlow
We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Leeds United...
Leeds United goalkeeper Karl Darlow’s thumb dislocation could be a fracture as well as a damaged ligament, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert claims that the thumb is a complex joint as the demands are higher so there could be complications in the recovery process.
Daniel Farke had put a seven-week timeline on him at the start of the month but it’s not possible to put an exact return date without knowing the details.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, said about Darlow:
“To be specific, he dislocated his thumb which can involve both a fracture and ligament damage as well.
“The thumb is a more complex joint with higher demands than the other fingers for a keeper which can complicate the return process.
“That process will consistent progressive mobility and strengthening, moving to more and more sport-specific demands which are catching, punching, throwing, etc.
“Difficult to give a clear date on this without knowing the full extent of the injury but should be out for a few more weeks.“
Darlow moved to Elland Road in the summer and at the time, it seemed like he was Farke’s number one pick for the season.
After Illan Meslier’s rocky end to the 2022/23 season, there were calls for a change in goal, but the Frenchman started the season strongly and has retained his spot.

Thus far, Darlow has only made two league appearances and two more league cup appearances and in none of the games he featured in did Leeds keep a clean sheet.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites could now move fast to sign a West Ham defender with just a few negotiation points left to iron out.
