Leeds United: ‘Incredible’ verdict shared as Connor Roberts becomes new Elland Road cult hero

Connor Roberts has emerged as the new Leeds United cult hero after his recent performances, according to Adam Pope.

Writing on the BBC Sport website on Wednesday (13 March), the BBC Radio Leeds journalist said it is “incredible” how the Welsh international has been immediately able to bond with the Whites fans, particularly when he’s only started two of his eight appearances for the club.

He added that the 28-year-old right-back was an “astute move” from Daniel Farke’s side after he made the loan switch to Elland Road from Burnley in the January transfer window.

“Roberts has certainly endeared himself to Whites fans as well as the Red Wall (Wales fans),” said Pope. “He is proving himself something of a cult hero – and not just for his dashing looks.

“It is incredible how a player can immediately bond with a club and its supporters, even more so when he has only made two starts in his eight appearances.

“But one goal, one assist, a few bone-crunching tackles and several swashbuckling runs are the medals he already has from his all-action style.

“Roberts was an astute move in the transfer window for a seasoned campaigner. The sort of guy who would have your back in the trenches as well as the cockpit.”

Connor Roberts making an impact for Leeds United

There is no doubting the impact Roberts has had on the Leeds side over the past few games after recently registering a goal and an assist.

While the right-back has had to wait patiently for his opportunities behind 17-year-old Archie Gray, he has conducted himself admirably when others would’ve shown their frustrations.

But the Welshman knows that his chances are going to come and, when they have, he’s certainly grabbed them with both hands.

Leeds United fans are amongst the most passionate supporters in the country.

There is no guarantee that he will be able to nail down a starting spot over the next couple of months, but the Whites fans are clearly enjoying what they’re seeing from the defender.

He knows exactly what it takes to get out of the Championship following his promotion with Burnley last season and that experience could prove to be vital in the coming weeks at Elland Road.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are ready to sell a midfielder for £10.3million after what he told the media.
