Leeds United include add-ons to sweeten deal as bid made for striker Wilfried Gnonto
Leeds United have reportedly tabled a £3.3million plus add-ons bid to sign Zurich striker Wilfried Gnonto.
According to Calciomercato journalist Francesco Guerrieri, the Whites are in talks to sign the 18-year-old this summer.
It’s understood that the Swiss outfit are looking for a fee in the region of £6.75million in order to part ways with him.
Via Twitter, Guerrieri wrote, “Leeds made a bid for Willy #Gnonto: €4M plus add-ons, but Zurigo wants €8M. Talks ongoing.”
Get this done
If Leeds are shelling out that kind of money, they certainly see Gnonto as someone ready to make the first team.
At 18, Jesse Marsch may not want him to start every game, but being a backup to Patrick Bamford before taking over from him could be the plan.
It’s also the right age to sign players from overseas leagues as they adapt quicker to their new surroundings.
The Premier League is certainly more competitive, faster and more physical than what the Italy international is used to.
The fact that he’s already got four caps to his name for the reigning European champions suggests that he’s not just a hot prospect and is actually ready to stake a claim in this Leeds first team.
However, the two sides still seem to be some way apart in their valuations so we’re not really sure if they will be making another bid for him.
We certainly would love to see him at Elland Road, but this may not be as likely as some think and there’s still some way to go.
