Leeds United in talks over personal terms to sign Weston McKennie as Fabrizio Romano shares late Tuesday development

Talks are ongoing between Leeds United and Juventus for the permanent signing of Weston McKennie, with discussions now taking place over personal terms, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian giants are reportedly willing to listen to offers for the USA international this month and have already offered [24 January] him to several Premier League clubs.

Fabrizio Romano, writing earlier on his Twitter account [24 January] revealed the Whites are exploring new options for their midfield during the January window, and are considering McKennie as one of the possibilities alongside long-held target Azzedine Ounahi.

And the trusted transfer guru has now revealed that the two clubs are in discussions with the player also in talks over personal terms.

Taking to his personal Twitter account again, Romano tweeted [24 January]: “Talks ongoing between Leeds United and Juventus on conditions of Weston McKennie deal. Discussions also on player side over personal terms.

“The other option for Leeds is Azzedine Ounahi from Angers.”

Midfield boost

With the club sitting in a precarious position at the bottom end of the Premier League table, boss Jesse Marsch will be scouring the market for every piece of quality he can get and McKennie is a player who fits the bill.

The 24-year-old will certainly boost Marsch’s quality in midfield, and could more crucially, form another destructive and dynamic midfield partnership with his American counterpart Tyler Adams.

The pair impressed together throughout the USA’s impressive World Cup campaign and it makes perfect sense for Marsch to pair them up again.

A player blessed with great aggression, tenacity, energy and dynamism, many fans could assume that he’s just another Adams which the club don’t need.

However, McKennie can add some unique creativity to the Whites’ ranks, especially goals. In 96 appearances for the Old Lady, the American has managed 13 goals and five assists meaning he’s well capable of contributing in the final third.

Can he be the man to fire them up the Premier League table? He’s got the character and quality to do just that.

In other Leeds news, “high likelihood” that Leeds complete another signing before the window closes according to Phil Hay.
