Leeds United in Premier League race to sign Moussa Dembele on free transfer

Leeds United are among three Premier League clubs interested in signing Moussa Dembele this summer, according to Foot Mercato journalist Ignazio Genuardi.

The 70-goal Lyon hitman looks set to leave the club this summer with his contract at the Groupama Stadium coming to a close in June.

The 26-year-old, who has scored 152 senior goals, including 70 across his four and a half years with the Ligue 1 side, is certainly no stranger to Premier League interest with the likes of Everton, West Ham United and Aston Villa or vying for him.

Dembele won’t be short of suitors this summer and according to Genuardi, Leeds United are among a host of English top-flight clubs “notably on track” to sign the Parisien striker.

Taking to his personal Twitter account [4 May], he tweeted:

“At the end of his contract with Lyon, Mr Dembélé can count on the interest of certain Premier League teams. Aston Villa, Leeds United and West Ham are notably on the track for the ex-Parisian. In Serie A, Inter Milan could be interested in a backing role.”

Priorities

It goes without saying that anything in the transfer market is going to rely heavily on Premier League survival once again, with Leeds United currently sitting with their heads just above water in a tense relegation battle.

There is so much uncertainty at the club right now that any kind of recruitment or long-term planning will have to be placed on hold with their status in the English top flight seriously under threat.

Given the Leeds United position and uncertainty right now, it remains a pipe dream to see ex-Fulham striker Dembele join the club considering the quality of other clubs currently targeting him this summer.

The 26-year-old is an established and reliable goalscorer having scored 70 goals for Lyon throughout his time at the French giants and 152 goals throughout his career at the top level, making him an attractive option for the Whites to finally replace Patrick Bamford up front.

But any kind of ambition to sign such quality will have to be placed on hold with the club having four games left to seal their fate for next season.

In other Leeds United news, other senior figures are now in line to be fired along with the manager after “emergency” talks.
