Leeds United in hunt to sign goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, Preston ready to listen to offers

Leeds United are interested in making a move for Preston North End goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, according to The Sun.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a positive season for the Lilywhites and The Sun reported on 1 March that the Championship side are willing to listen to offers for one of their highest-earning players.

It’s believed Rangers are also interested in Woodman, with Michael Beale eyeing a £3.5million swoop. Leicester City are also looking to land the former Newcastle man.

Competition

Competition is certainly required in the goalkeeping department at Elland Road, so this is a move which could make a lot of sense. Illan Meslier is, without a doubt, Leeds’ number one with Joel Robles providing very little competition behind him.

The Frenchman’s performances have been inconsistent of late, so having a player come in a compete would be a smart move from Victor Orta and the board. Competition for places is vital and if Leeds want to push on and become a top-half team, so they will need to keep investing all over the pitch.

Furthermore, Woodman would be a relatively cheap deal for the Yorkshire side to complete, compared to the modern-day transfer fees which are being dished out. He is young, experienced, and performing at a high level, what’s not to like about this move?

As the end of the season nears, we anticipate a number of players to be linked with moves to Elland Road. We know Orta likes to get his business done early, and this summer won’t be any different.
