Leeds in hunt for chart-topping Premier League ace, could cost only £7m – report
Leeds United have entered the race to sign West Brom keeper Sam Johnstone in January, according to the Sun.
The newspaper have claimed on their website that the stopper is out of contract at the end of next season, and could look to leave the Hawthorns early.
It is suggested that Brighton could also hijack the race, with both them and the Whites searching for a “top-quality” goalkeeper.
Johnstone has been superb since his return to the Premier League and has kept West Brom in numerous games with his efforts.
The 27-year-old is one of the assets that Sam Allardyce may look to sell if his club looked doomed next month, as they sit in the relegation zone.
With his contract running out next season though, it is reported that he could only fetch £7million, which would be a bargain.
Johnstone tops the goalkeeping charts for most saves made this season in the Premier League, ahead of third-placed Illan Meslier.
Casilla on the way out?
Kiko Casilla has had a troubled past year at Elland Road, only featuring against Derby and in the Carabao Cup since his eight-game ban.
The Spaniard is demanding wages up to £32,115-a-week according to Spotrac, with only five players above him – despite the fact he isn’t playing.
Everybody knows that his time has been up at the club for many years now, and with Johnstone potentially coming available next month, it could be the perfect time to get rid.
Victor Orta is always on the lookout for deals that could become available, and this looks to be the first of few, and it could solve a real problem area for the Whites.
