Leeds United in good position to sign Jimmy-Jay Morgan from Southampton
Leeds United are reportedly in a good position to sign Southampton’s young attacking sensation Jimmy-Jay Morgan this month.
According to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Joe Donnohue, Leeds’ “Anticipate Talent” project is still an attractive prospect to young players.
Sky Sports [12:52 on 24/01] reported that the 17-year-old has told his club he wants to leave and Arsenal and Manchester City are also keen on securing his services.
Via Twitter, Donnohue wrote, “Leeds in a good position to land highly-rated Southampton winger Jimmy-Jay Morgan (17). Has 4G/5A in ~600 PL2 mins this season & not expected to sign pro terms at St Mary’s. #LUFC’s ‘Anticipate Talent’ project remains a draw.
Project’s working well
Leeds have done a phenomenal job in recent seasons to identify top young talents in England and tried to lure them to Thorp Arch.
There’s been plenty of evidence to prove that youngsters go on to graduate and become first-team players if they perform well at the youth level.
Marcelo Bielsa often asked many of the youngsters to train with the senior players and Jesse Marsch too has given some of the youngsters a chance to prove their credentials.
Morgan appears to be a highly coveted player as not just Leeds, but other sides too are keen on securing hod services in the January transfer window.
While Arsenal and Manchester City have more money than the Whites, Elland Road will prove to be a more suitable destination for the player if he wants a quicker route to first-team football.
It remains to be seen where he ends up and if he does leave in the first place as Southampton are unwilling to sanction the youngster’s exit just yet.
