Leeds United ‘impressive’ announcement made after Elland Road update
Leeds United are set to redevelop Elland Road as pictures have been released of what the stadium could potentially look like.
The hierarchy of the city’s council met recently as the West Yorkshire outfit hope to expand the West Stand at Elland Road in the coming months.
Plans for the regeneration of the area, including an expanded stadium, were agreed upon, and the Whites have unveiled how the ground may appear soon.
As things stand, Elland Road can accommodate up to 37,645 fans, but the Peacocks are planning to modernise it and exponentially increase capacity.

Elland Road capacity of 53,000 would be impressive for Leeds United
Henry Winter has been impressed by the West Yorkshire outfit’s plans to redevelop their stadium.
The World Soccer journalist admires the Whites’ plans to increase capacity to approximately 53,000 supporters after changes to the West, North and South stands.
Stand | Capacity |
Don Revie (North) Stand | 7,000 |
Jack Charlton (East) Stand (aka Hesco Stand) | 15,000 |
Norman Hunter (South) Stand (aka Elland Road Stand) | 5,000 |
John Charles (West) Stand | 11,000 |
With the Peacocks planning to revitalise Elland Road by modernising it, fans may be in for a complete evolution of the ground.
Reacting to the news, Winter wrote on X (28 April): “Impressive. Club estimates final capacity ‘approximately 53,000’.”
49ers showing ambition at Leeds
49ers Enterprises have shown ambition at Elland Road with the proposed redevelopment of the historic ground.
With more potential footfall into the stadium, there’ll arguably be more money to spend in the coming years.
All established teams in the top flight have or are planning to have some of the best stadiums in the country, and it’s encouraging to see the West Yorkshire outfit taking steps to modernise their facilities.
Leeds will play Premier League football next season after a two-year exile, and the 49ers will undoubtedly need to bolster their squad soon.
The fans haven’t been impressed by the Whites’ recent transfer business, as they were forced to sign a free agent like Josuha Guilavogui midway through the campaign due to what appears to be poor squad planning.
Next summer, all eyes will be on the hierarchy and what the recruitment department can do to build a squad capable of surviving relegation.
It hasn’t been easy for promoted sides to survive the drop back to the Championship in recent years, and supporters will hope the 49ers have learned from the mistakes of others.
While the proposed revitalisation of Elland Road is pleasing, the Peacocks’ short-term goals in the top flight can’t be forgotten.
