Leeds United: Ilia Gruev and Joe Gelhardt injury news emerges at Elland Road
Ilia Gruev and Joe Gelhardt have both suffered fresh injury blows at Leeds United, with the latter having felt a back spasm, according to Adam Pope.
The BBC journalist reported via his X account on 28 February that, as well as the two mentioned, Georginio Rutter was also injured, while Patrick Bamford did not train on Monday.
It was also said that Daniel Farke is hoping to have a stronger squad for the Championship clash against Huddersfield on 2 March with players returning after missing the 3-2 defeat to Chelsea.
Leeds United injury blows start to build up at Elland Road
Gruev and Rutter have each played key roles in Farke’s first-choice team this season, and their absence will come as a concern, but given the strength in depth at the Elland Road club’s disposal, they should be able to cope.
If there is any game you would want to miss those players for, an FA Cup clash against Premier League opposition would likely be that one rather than a crucial league clash in their push for automatic promotion.
Farke’s hope that he will have some players returning for the Huddersfield clash is good news, with the injuries not thought to be long-term issues or concerns that could derail their season.
Rutter’s absence was felt the most against Chelsea, with Joel Piroe struggling to fill his shoes, but moving Archie Gray into midfield to replace Gruev proved successful as he drew high praise for his performance at Stamford Bridge.
