Ian Wright worries for Leeds United as he reacts to what Jesse Marsch said at Villa Park

Ian Wright has voiced his concerns for Leeds United as he reacted to Jesse Marsch’s comments claiming that the club’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on 13 January was their most complete performance of the season.

It was a tough defeat to take with the Whites playing far better than Villa for large periods of the game but in a results business, Marsch isn’t delivering.

Wright confessed that if the Whites play as they did against Villa that they will undoubtedly start to get points but their dier record of winless games worries him.

“I think that you listen to Jesse Marsch and it did feel like a rousing rally call but Leeds if they carry on playing like that they will get something but you have to get something,” said Wright live on Match of the Day (14 January, 1:22:31).

“Won two of the last 15, so that is a worry.”

Frailties.

It was a frustrating evening against Villa, to say the least, and Marsch will be baffled as to how his side came away with nothing from the Midlands.

The Whites played some terrific attacking football in the game, nevertheless, the team’s defensive frailties were showcased yet again.

It’s become far too easy for teams to beat Leeds this season and it seems like an over-the-top ball is all it takes to rip apart the Whites defence.

Marsch must take criticism for this with the way he sets up his side and more needs to be done to sure things up at the back if he stands any chance of retaining his job.

It’s all well and good playing an attractive brand of football, something that was at times on full display against Aston Villa, but the team needs points more than anything right now.

With luck, the new January signings of Max Wober and Georginio Rutter will be just the remedy to get Leeds United over the three points line.

The Whites are not in desperate straights just yet but more needs to be done in the coming weeks.

In other Leeds United news, Georginio Rutter has been tipped for a perfect partnership with a key Whites man.
