Leeds United hopeful of January business, Victor Orta chasing targets
Victor Orta is actively looking to sign a player for the Leeds United senior team, according to Graham Smyth of the Yorkshire Evening Post.
The Whites have added players for their Under-23 side this month, but as of now, the club is yet to bolster their senior squad.
Smyth has suggested that the Whites are hopeful of signing players this month, with at least one signing being a bare minimum.
“This month, it really has to happen and Victor Orta is actively chasing targets,” Smyth wrote for The Yorkshire Evening Post.
“On day 12 of the window, nothing is imminent, but Leeds are hopeful of doing business and adding at least one to Marcelo Bielsa’s squad.
“One senior signing would feel like the bare minimum, regardless of whether or not the current injury crisis is expected to abate in the next month or so.”
Signing a midfielder is a priority, and it is an open secret.
Leeds wanted to sign a midfielder during the summer window, and in the end, they ended up landing a winger in Daniel James.
Marcelo Bielsa doesn’t want to sign just for the sake of it but the present scenario deserves a change in the transfer approach.
With Kalvin Phillips not expected to return till March, Bielsa has kept faith in Adam Forshaw who has been outstanding since his return from injury.
The midfield lacks depth at the moment, but it seems the Whites are serious about bringing in someone this month.
The Argentine will probably want to sign someone who can make an instant impact.
It will be interesting to see if Bielsa casts an eye on another striker as well after Joe Gelhardt’s injury.
Patrick Bamford, however, is set to return, but he has missed a lot of football thus far.
In other Leeds United news, an 18-year-old academy product has signed his first professional deal.
