Leeds United are not ruling out making signings this window though there are no imminent incoming transfers, according to Kaveh Solhekol.
We are expecting a quiet end to the transfer window at Elland Road despite numerous links to players and it no surprise to hear that there is nothing imminent in the offing.
It is a surprise to hear that the club haven’t ruled out new signings this month as it has been heavily hinted that no additions will be brought in during January.
Solhekol told Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk show (Thursday, January 21, 17:00), “Leeds United are happy with their squad at the moment.
“They haven’t ruled out doing business this window but we’re told nothing imminent at the moment.”
This raises the prospect of the club bringing some new faces to Elland Road in the next few weeks as Leeds continue to be linked with numerous players.
The Whites have most recently been linked with Fiorentina midfielder Erick Pulgar with an Italian journalist claiming that Leeds like the player.
Gianluigi Longari, who is the transfer expert for Sportitalia TV, has said that the Puglar news is “just rumours for the moment. They like him but no offer.”
Pulgar could be a player that Marcelo Bielsa looks to recruit in the second half of the window following the recent Premier League game against Brighton which exposed Leeds’ midfield weakness.
Or rather, Leeds’ reliance on Kalvin Phillips as with the England international suspended for the game against Brighton we simply didn’t look like the same team.
Pascal Struijk stood in for the midfield linchpin and he was simply unable to recreate anything near the level of quality that Phillips brings to that role.
Bringing in back up to take some of the pressure off Phillips would be a good move as we simply cannot afford to be exposed again.
Hopefully, this update from Sky Sports means we will see some first-team additions this month after all.
