Leeds United have moved on from Lewis O’Brien – report

Leeds United have moved on from Huddersfield midfielder Lewis O’Brien, according to Alan Nixon of The Sun.

The reliable journalist claimed on his personal Twitter account that Leeds are looking for options elsewhere, and they’re not considering O’Brien as an option anymore.

The Whites were hot on the trail of the 23-year-old in the summer, but they couldn’t agree to a deal for him.

When he was asked on Twitter whether Leeds United are still interested in the midfielder, he wrote;

“Looking elsewhere right now, but not signing him in summer was a mistake.”

Unlikely

The Sun claimed last month that Leeds could sign him for a fee of around £10million, and that a move could be reignited in January.

O’Brien signed a new deal with Huddersfield in the summer but there’s a price clause in his terms. He could be available at a decent price.

However, it seems Leeds have moved on from him.

Mateusz Klich has been nowhere near his best this season, and with Kalvin Phillips out injured, signing a midfielder in January could be crucial.

With Adam Forshaw now doing incredibly well in midfield, Marcelo Bielsa is probably looking at a different type of midfielder in January.

O’Brien has been in superb form for Huddersfield, and his price tag may appeal to Leeds, but Bielsa probably wants a more versatile player in his squad.

Leeds have been linked with a move for Weston McKennie last week. The Juventus midfielder would cost almost twice the amount of O’Brien, but he can perform multiple roles.
