Leeds United have ‘brilliant’ confidence for run-in – Jermaine Beckford

Leeds United are currently enjoying their longest unbeaten run of the 2021/22 season and they appear to be growing in confidence with every game.

The Whites’ 0-0 draw away at Crystal Palace on Monday evening took their current no-losing streak to five matches but they still have Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea to come in their next three games.

Easier games against Brighton and Brentford end the season but Jesse Marsch will need his players to carry the confidence of the last five games into their final five to ease any relegation fears.

Ex-Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford thinks this most recent run will be excellent for everyone at the club ahead of the final run-in to the chequered flag in May.

“It’s brilliant [Leeds’ run] going into all of those games,” Beckford said to the Premier League.

“Especially the Man City game at home. You have to go into that with some kind of confidence.

“It’s five games unbeaten now. A couple of clean sheets back-to-back going into a home game. Elland Road is a really tricky place to go. It’s really intimidating for the opposition as well.

“Manchester City are arguably one of the two or three best teams in the world at the moment but they still have to go there and play and win. They know they’re going to come up against a Leeds United team that’s going to get right in their faces.”

Bring it on

Marsch won’t be fazed by the upcoming trio of fixtures that threaten to drag the Whites back into the relegation fight because his boys are up for anything.

Victories against Norwich, Wolves and Watford have certainly helped ease any clenched behinds around Thorp Arch but they were under pressure to win those games.

These next three have no expectations on the Whites so even one point would be more than fans might be expecting.

The boss just needs to send his troops into battle with that same “no surrender” attitude that has seen them fight back to some memorable wins since his arrival in Yorkshire.

These top teams aren’t ready for the cleverer but still in your face, high-intensity game that Leeds play and especially Chelsea and Arsenal could crumble in the pressure cooker.

With the added bonus of having the majority of his squad fit to play, Marsch may even be quietly confident despite the stature of the clubs immediately up ahead.
