Leeds United have a 'punchers chance' of staying up says talkSPORT pundit

Leeds United have a “puncher’s chance” of staying in the Premier League, according to talkSPORT’s Simon Jordan.

Jesse Marsch’s side face in-form Brighton at Elland Road on Sunday in their last home game of the season.

Brighton are coming off a memorable 4-0 win over Manchester United, yet talkSPORT pundit Jordan believes Leeds have a chance against the seagulls.

Speaking on talkSPORT’s White&Jordan show, Jordan said: “Don’t forget Brighton couldn’t have played against a more under aroused and gutless team than Man United on the pitch last week.

“Leeds aren’t going to be gutless and under-aroused, the challenge is they’re going to be over-aroused and they’ve got to manage that situation.”

Jordan added: “I think there’s still a puncher’s chance for Leeds.

“I think if they can beat Brighton – and I think they will beat Brighton because they’ll have more desire in this game than Brighton will have – that then puts everything back on Burnley.”

They must beat Brighton

Although this game isn’t mathematically a must win, it does have the feeling of a must-win for Leeds United.

A win for Leeds and a defeat for Burnley against an in-form Tottenham side shifts the dynamic of this relegation battle.

Leeds’ previous three matches have been tough assignments and, on paper, any more than three points from the three fixtures would’ve been a huge ask.

Brighton and Brentford provide a more realistic chance for Leeds to heap the pressure on Burnley.

The Elland Road crowd will sense the opportunity to capitalise on an easier fixture against Brighton.

The Whites will need to keep their heads in this encounter, as they have been prone to completely lose their discipline in recent weeks.

They will want to use the Elland Road crowd but not get caught up in the atmosphere and make rash decisions.

Luke Ayling and Dan James have been the latest to recklessly get themselves sent off.
