Leeds United have £25.8m bid rejected for Porto winger Otávio

Leeds United have had a £25.8million bid rejected for Porto’s 27-year-old winger Otavio, according to Portuguese news outlet OJOGO.

The news outlet reported on Wednesday 22 June, that the Whites have had a bid rejected for the Portugal attacker, with Porto holding out for his £51.7million release clause.

Otavio mustered three goals and 13 assists for Porto in the 2021/22 season and is contracted to the Portuguese side until the summer of 2025.

Little bit pricey

It is good to see Leeds’ hierarchy remaining busy within the transfer market, however, a move for Otavio seems a little bit naive.

It looks as if Porto will hold out for as much as they can for the winger and if Leeds pay anything near the £51.7million release clause then something is wrong.

He’s a good player, having featured regularly in Europe for Porto, but for that kind of money you are looking for a special talent.

Furthermore, the winger is 27 and will most likely only decline from now on.

If Leeds want an adequate replacement for Raphinha then they have to be looking to invest in a top young talent from Europe, much like they did when bringing the Brazilian to the club.

There should be trust in the club hierarchy after their early summer business and Victor Orta and co will quickly realise that a move for the Porto man isn’t the right one.

Nevertheless, it is promising to see the club preparing in case the Brazilian leaves the club.
