Leeds United: Graham Smyth shares what Sheffield Wednesday fans have said about Ian Poveda

Graham Smyth shared what Sheffield Wednesday fans have been saying about Leeds United loanee Ian Poveda ahead of their Championship clash on Friday 8 March.

The diminutive forward arrived at Hillsborough during the January transfer window, joining on a loan deal until the end of the season having reportedly had the chance to join on a full deal.

However, Poveda will be unable to prove himself against the Whites, with the 24-year-old not allowed to play against his parent club.

Speaking via the Inside Elland Road podcast on Thursday (7 March), Smyth said: “He’s been a revelation for them. They rave about him, absolutely rave about him.

“Though he hasn’t got the goals and assists that would make you think that is why they rave about him, it’s how he pushes them up the pitch and the skill level he has been showing. It’s a big, big blow for them that he can’t play.”

Can Leeds United keep up with Leicester City and Ipswich Town?

Although Wednesday remain in the relegation zone, Leeds will need to stay vigilant at Hillsborough if they are to keep the pressure on Leicester City and Ipswich Town at the top of the Championship.

The Owls have claimed five victories in their last six matches, only losing out in a 2-0 defeat to the Foxes, who remain five points ahead of Leeds and three ahead of the Tractor Boys.

But even despite their form, Daniel Farke will be confident that his side can claim all three points and build upon their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Stoke City on Tuesday 5 March.

The Whites slipped up when they could only draw 1-1 with 10-man Huddersfield Town, looking tired after a 3-2 thriller against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge having previously been on a nine-match winning run in the league but they are still in sensational form.

With Danny Rohl unable to call upon Poveda for the match, Leeds will be hoping for a much easier game. However, at this point in the season, no one wants to be coming up against a relegation-threatened side, especially one with the bit between their teeth.
