Graham Smyth has been left furious after Leeds United star Patrick Bamford has revealed what happened to him last season.

Speaking on the BBC’s My Mate’s a Footballer podcast on Thursday (8 February), the 30-year-old said Whites chiefs had to arrange security at his house on the back of him missing a penalty in the club's Premier League draw against Newcastle United, with the forward also being forced to close down his social media accounts.

Smyth tweeted on Thursday that you would have to be a "proper moron" to turn up at a footballer's home, adding that it's "difficult" to imagine how someone would be "that angry at one individual to begin with".

"You'd have to be a proper moron to show up to a footballer's home," said the Yorkshire Evening Post journalist. "Difficult to imagine being that angry at one individual to begin with, but then staying that angry as you get in the car and drive there? Freaks."

No true Leeds United fan would do this to Patrick Bamford

This is a massive line that was clearly crossed by a supporter as there is absolutely no way fans should be turning up at a player's home.

Everyone gets frustrated with players from time to time, but it should never get too personal because, although we all love the sport, it's not life and death.

No one deserves to feel as though their family's safety may be in danger and it's completely wrong for someone to go to those lengths to express their frustrations.

It must've been a difficult time for the forward as this is something you would never expect to happen and it's no wonder he was completely bereft of confidence over the months that followed.

The forward now appears to have put that behind him, though, after showing some great form at the start of this year to earn his place back in the side at Elland Road.
