Leeds United goalkeeper Dani van den Heuvel out for months after successful surgery - Rob Price

Rob Price has confirmed that Leeds United goalkeeper Dani van den Heuvel has undergone successful surgery after fracturing bones in his neck and jaw in a car accident.

The Head of Medicine and Performance at Thorp Arch shared that the surgery was completed in the Netherlands, and the young sensation is already back working slowly in West Yorkshire.

What comes as no surprise is that Van den Heuvel will be out for months as each fracture needs time to heal, with everyone sending their best wishes of course.

Speaking in a rare interview from Thorp Arch as shared on Twitter, Price confirmed the next stages of recovery for the young goalkeeper as he moves forward.

“Poor Dani was involved in a car accident when he was away with the national team,” he said.

“He suffered some serious injuries, he fractured a couple of bones in his neck and also fractured his jaw so he ended up having surgery over in the Netherlands in the summer.

“He’s come back over and is starting to work, he can run and he can do little bits and pieces but we’ve got to allow all those fractures to heal and that’s going to be quite a few months before he’s back involved.”

Gutting.

This is terrible news, but we are all thankful that Van den Heuvel is already on the road to recovery and will hopefully be back playing as soon as possible.

The last thing any young player hoping to breakthrough needs is an injury, but Price and Leeds are some of the best at nurturing talented individuals and getting them back on top.

Price will be working closely with the keeper during his recovery, making sure that he is on the right track and no doubt following a plan that will help him progress through each stage.

Illan Meslier has just seen Joel Robles come in as another experienced option, and hopefully, the Spaniard can help Van den Heuvel by passing on the knowledge of the game, and maybe even recovery as a goalkeeper.

The time should fly by for the young Dutchman, who will be counting down every last second and minute until he can get back out on the pitch properly in months time.
