Leeds United: Glenn Murray ‘very tense’ as ‘worrying’ verdict emerges live on BBC

Glenn Murray has insisted the Championship promotion race remains “very tense” with Southampton now entering the equation to ramp up the pressure on Leeds United.

Presenter Jason Mohammad explained that Southampton’s form would be “worrying” for the current top three with Leeds and Leicester yet to play the Saints.

Murray went on to share that the final few games will be decided by which players can hold their nerve, stand up and be counted ahead of a decisive stage of the season.

Speaking live on BBC Sport Final Score [20 April, 15:56], Murray shared: “It’s very tense. Southampton are doing brilliantly. Leicester needed that win today just to stabilise themselves, they’ve not been good recently.

Mohammad then shared: “When you look at Leeds United, Ipswich and Leicester at the moment, it is worrying knowing that Southampton are creeping up and they have to play Leeds and Leicester as well,” as Murray explained: “All the onus is on Leeds and Ipswich now.

“Basically, it’s about who can hold their nerve in the last few games of the season. That’s what it’s all about, who can stand up in the big moments? Who can be counted? At the moment it’s Southampton with all their momentum.”

Leeds United nerves start to grow in Championship promotion race

After Leicester beat West Brom on 20 April and Southampton stuttered to a 2-1 defeat to Cardiff, Leeds and Ipswich know that wins for both clubs will help them continue in their push for promotion from the Championship.

Leicester’s win saw them move three points above Ipswich in second and four above Leeds in third, while Southampton remain three points behind Daniel Farke’s side as a result of their loss which will have come as a massive relief at Elland Road.

Leeds will face Middlesbrough on 22 April while Ipswich saw this weekend’s game postponed with Coventry in the FA Cup semi-final, putting them in a strong position as they know what they have to do to stay in the race.

However, should Leeds win their game, Ipswich will come under increasing pressure as a result as they will need to win to stay in the automatic promotion places – something Leeds will be challenging for all the way until the season ends.
