Leeds United given green light to plough on with summer transfer business

Leeds United staying in the Premier League has seen Victor Orta be given the “green light” in the transfer market, according to The Mirror.

The Whites’ Director of Football has been holding back on his plans for the summer transfer window due to the club’s precarious league position but a late Jack Harrison goal away at Brentford saw them secure their safety in the top flight and Orta is already “moving quickly.”

RB Salzburg’s enigmatic midfielder Brenden Aaronson is set to be Leeds’ first summer signing to reunite with Jesse Marsch, the man who gave him his debut for New York Red Bulls in the MLS.

The deal will cost Leeds roughly £24million and it won’t be the last of the summer by a long stretch with Aberdeen’s Calvin Ramsay another potential target as they look for cover at right-back.

Orta also wants to see a striker walk through the doors at Thorp Arch to help provide cover for Patrick Bamford after a very injury-laden season for the England international.

There could still be outgoings despite their successful bid to survive the drop with Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha the two most likely to leave but the club want to restart negotiation over a new deal for both players.

Buckle in

We all know that this squad needs a really big overhaul after Marcelo Bielsa’s reign came to an end in February but now we finally get to see it in action.

Marsch has done well with what he had been left by the Argentine to keep our heads above water when the clock struck zero and now he can get himself out of survival mode and ready to thrive next season.

Aaronson was one of Salzburg’s standout performers in the Champions League last season and he really made his mark in a man of the match display against Bayern Munich in the round of 16.

So his signature would be a great start t proceedings but there has to be a good five or six more along with a few players going in the opposite direction to make it a properly successful summer.

If all goes to plan, then we can realistically look to the 2022-23 season as one where we shouldn’t be anywhere near that bottom three again.

In other Leeds United news, one of the lesser talked about rumours around Elland Road is Marsch’s interest in signing this 16-year-old from Cardiff City.
