Leeds United gauntlet thrown down for Cody Drameh after 'cute' U21 display

Cody Drameh was the arguable star of the show for the Leeds United Under-21s against Stoke City and he now knows his challenge.

The 20-year-old produced a fine display from right-back as the Potters youngsters were blown away in a 4-0 win thanks to a Mateo Joseph Fernandez hat-trick and Sonny Perkins’ customary goal.

Drameh assisted two of Fernandez’s goals and now Under-21s manager Michael Skubala has thrown down the gauntlet for a first-team place.

“A really good professional performance from Cody,” Skubala said, as quoted by Leeds Live. “I think in moments he was really cute, he got forward well and defended well at times. He’s come down to get some minutes and it was a really strong performance from Cody.

“That’s his challenge, he wants to strive and he wants to be the number one right-back at the club and he’s another good young pro that knows he’s got to do work and he’s got some senior international players ahead of him.

“It’s hard for him but he’s showing the right attitude to keep going, which is good and we support him.”

Blockade

There is certainly no doubt that Drameh is a very talented individual but he finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, unfortunately for him.

Jesse Marsch moved quickly to sign Rasmus Kristensen from RB Salzburg in the summer to become Leeds’ number one right-back with Luke Ayling still at Thorp Arch, getting in the 20-year-old’s way.

He was strong enough to force Marcelo Bielsa to let him leave on loan last January and he excelled in the Championship with Cardiff City but he was denied the same fate this summer.

There was definitely interest in his services from the second tier and another 12 months could have done him wonders but he has instead been limited to the odd few minutes along with youth fixtures.

He is now way beyond that kind of game and this coming January has to be the time he either gets the game time he deserves or leaves Leeds United for good.

In other Leeds United news, Liam Cooper has returned to the Whites’ side recently but he was blasted by this Sky Sports pundit on Sunday after a horror moment against Aston Villa.
