Leeds United: Gary Lineker shares ‘robbed’ Leicester verdict after ‘terrible’ Elland Road call

Leicester City were “robbed” by a “terrible” decision from the officials during their Championship defeat to Leeds United, according to Gary Lineker.

Daniel Farke’s side managed to slightly reduce the gap to the table toppers with a 3-1 win on Friday (23 February) thanks to second-half strikes from Connor Roberts, Patrick Bamford and an own-goal from Wout Faes.

However, Leicester saw a second goal ruled out in the second half as Patson Daka was deemed to have scored from an offside position, only for later replays to show that the Whites’ defence had played him on, much to Lineker’s frustration.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast (26 February, 32) he said: “I think if Leicester would have beaten Leeds on Friday, which they should have done.

“I mean, they were 1-0 up and then they were absolutely robbed of a goal by a terrible offside decision and then ended up losing the game.”

Will Leeds United lift the Championship title at Elland Road?

Leeds United were incredibly lucky to see the offside flag raised at Elland Road on Friday, otherwise, they would have almost certainly tasted defeat at Elland Road for the first time in the Championship this season under Farke.

It was a poor decision from the linesman that he really shouldn’t have got wrong, but Leicester had more than enough chances to put the game to bed in the second half before the Whites even got their comeback up and running.

Leeds have shown this season that they can be ruthless going forward and they did exactly that at Elland Road on Friday, taking their chances to propel themselves right back into the title race.

A number of pundits and supporters now view Farke’s side as one of the favourites for automatic promotion, but if they continue this recent run of form, particularly at home, they could go one better and lift the title.
