Leeds United: Gary Lineker makes ‘choking’ Leicester City admission in new title verdict

Leeds United, Leicester City and Ipswich Town are “choking” in the race for the Championship title this season, according to Gary Lineker.

Daniel Farke’s side currently sit third in the table, a point adrift of both the Foxes and Kieran McKenna’s Tractor Boys ahead of their crucial showdown with Blackburn Rovers at Elland Road on Saturday (11 April).

While Lineker insists the race is still in Enzo Maresca’s side’s hands, had admitted that Leicester are “wobbling” at the top of the table as the “tight” title race goes right down to the wire.

Speaking on The Rest is Football (12 April, 41:55) he said: “Let’s talk about the Championship because everyone is choking at the top.

“Leicester won at the weekend which was amazing for Leicester as both Leeds and Ipswich lost and then in midweek Leicester lost at Millwall but neither Ipswich nor Leeds could win their games. It’s so tight now, Leicester still have it in their own hands but oh boy we are wobbling.”

Micah Richards responded saying: “You’ve got some wiggle room, look at him talking it down, it’s really tight. He wasn’t saying this before was he.”

Will Leeds United and Daniel Farke beat Leicester City and Ipswich Town to the Premier League?

As Lineker suggested, it feels like none of the three teams battling it out at the top of the Championship really wants to win the title this season, especially as they have all dropped points since the March international break.

Leeds United had looked unbeatable, particularly at Elland Road for much of 2024, but in recent weeks Farke’s side have looked off of their usual pace and really struggled going forward against both Sunderland and Coventry.

While that would have some supporters worried, the Whites have the likes of Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville in their ranks who are more than capable of producing a goal or a scoring chance out of absolutely nothing.

Hopefully, Leeds will stop choking and will get their act together for the final four matches of the season. Lineker may not want to see Farke’s squad lift the title this season, but fans at Elland Road will believe they are more than capable.
