Leeds United: Gary Lineker instantly reacts as Leicester win 2-1
Gary Lineker has wasted no time in reacting on social media after Leeds United were beaten 2-1 at Coventry City, while Leicester City claimed a 2-1 win of their own against Birmingham City.
Ipswich Town also lost earlier in the day against Norwich City, meaning the Foxes’ win takes them one point clear at the top of the Championship standings with a game in hand on their two automatic promotion rivals.
Shortly after the full-time whistle, Lineker posted on his personal X account: “Lovely day for us”.
Leeds United lose out on opportunity to lead
Leeds’ defeat against Mark Robins’ side sees the Whites slip into third, having had the chance to occupy top spot themselves had they claimed victory.
Their automatic promotion destiny is now no longer in their hands, with Daniel Farke’s men requiring slip-ups from Ipswich or Leicester – or both – in order to move back into the top two.
Back-to-back home games against Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers offer the opportunity to recapture some momentum and keep the pressure on the pair ahead of them.
Leeds can certainly ill-afford more dropped points – on the rare occasion that their rivals fail to pick up victories, the Whites must ensure they learn from this mistake and capitalise.
The standard of this season’s promotion race is as high as it has ever been – there is no room for error.
