Leeds United: Gabby Agbonlahor shares ‘outstanding’ promotion verdict in Ipswich Town admission

Leeds United have had their chance in the Premier League and it would be better to see Ipswich Town win promotion this season, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Daniel Farke’s side currently sit third in the Championship, two points behind second-placed Ipswich Town and five points adrift of table toppers Leicester City as they look to make an immediate return to the top flight.

While a number of pundits have tipped the Whites to occupy the second automatic promotion place this term, Agbonlahor has admitted he wants to see the Tractor Boys win “outstanding” back-to-back promotions.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Thursday (7 March, 7:28) he said: “I want Ipswich to come up, I feel like the story they’ve been on, to get double promotions, two seasons in a row would be outstanding.

“Leeds had their chance, yes they were entertaining but some of the games they played in were suicide under Bielsa. Imagine Ipswich in the Premier League.”

Will Leeds United beat Ipswich Town for promotion to the Premier League?

Leeds United have been in phenomenal form this season, particularly in the last few months when they have looked almost unbeatable under Farke’s management, but that may not be enough to be promoted this season.

Ipswich seem to have a knack for winning, even when they’re not at their best recently. Against Bristol City last time out, the Tractor Boys came from behind twice to win 3-2, even after missing what seemed to be a crucial second-half penalty.

However, all Farke’s side can do is continue to try and claim all three points every time they step on the pitch. They can’t control Leicester or Ipswich’s results, but they can be ready to pounce if either side slip up again.

Hopefully, one of the Championship’s top two sides will drop points again before the end of the season as no Leeds fan will want to deal with the uncertainty of the playoffs this term.
