Leeds United footage shows what Joe Gelhardt did when Daniel Farke got annoyed v Rotherham

Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt was spotted in disbelief at Crycensio Summerville’s Panenka penalty in their 3-0 win over Rotherham on Saturday (10 February).

Summerville scored twice against Rotherham at Elland Road as Leeds earned a fifth successive league win to keep the pressure on the Championship’s top two.

Footage emerged (A Kick in the Bremners X account, 10 February) on the touchline during the Dutchman’s brazen spot-kick of Gelhardt’s reaction to the goal, despite Daniel Farke stating his dislike for the Panenka.

The Leeds boss stated after the game (via Yorkshire Evening Post, 10 February): “I am too old for this generation. In terms of penalties, I am a bit more old-fashioned, if I am honest.

“I’d rather have the ball into the corner, more or less like the last home game (with a penalty) when Joel Piroe scored a goal like this. I am not a big fan of this.

“Especially when you have already missed a few. But I’d rather he scored this way, than going the normal way and put the ball against the post.

“Sometimes, we seem to make it a bit too complicated in front of goal and we can score in a complicated way… I am a bit old-fashioned, but he scored today and I was pleased.”

Daniel Farke unhappy with Crysencio Summerville antics

Farke’s disdain for the Panenka is understandable given his desperation for the win and three points in such a high-stakes period for the Whites right now.

However, he can’t fault the kind of confidence that Summerville is playing at currently and if the Dutchman is confident enough to score like that, he’s well within his right to do it.

Fifteen goals so far this season shows that everything is going for him so why not attempt the spectacular? You make your own luck in football.

The Leeds United fans won’t care also. They want to be entertained and get their money’s worth when they travel down to Elland Road and seeing Summerville play with such confidence and aura certainly makes their trips well worth it.

Gelhardt certainly enjoyed the moment too especially at a time when he’s hoping to be featuring more for his boyhood club but when you have players like Summerville and even Wilfried Gnonto and Patrick Bamford playing like they are, it is incredibly difficult to make the mark you want to.

Despite Farke’s comments post-match, he would have been delighted inside.

In other Leeds United news, Robbie Fowler has expressed his fury after what Bamford revealed recently.
