Leeds United final Championship position predicted by supercomputer

Leeds United are good value to win the Championship and gain promotion to the Premier League automatically this season, according to Opta Analyst.

The report (5 August) used a supercomputer to simulate the upcoming Championship campaign 10,000 times.

In total, Leeds won the league 45 per cent of the time. In addition, they earned automatic promotion in 63.4 per cent of the simulations.

However, as recently as February, Leeds United were favourites to finish in second place behind Leicester City in the 2023-24 campaign (Opta Analyst). Unfortunately, in that instance, it wasn’t meant to be.

Leeds United backed heavily

The weight of expectations can be difficult. We all knew that Leeds would be favoured this season, and rightfully so. Even after defeat to Southampton in the play-off final, it was pretty clear to see how talented this squad was for the Championship.

Many big names have since departed, but this squad remains incredibly strong by second-tier standards.

Obviously, you have to take predictions like this with a massive pinch of salt. Leeds United fans have spent years getting their hopes up and, more often than not, things don’t go as planned.

Still, Daniel Farke understands this league. He knows what it gains to go up and he won’t want to leave it to a play-off lottery this time.

With the club still looking for more additions in the transfer market, you’d have to imagine their strength in depth will only improve.

From top to bottom, this is a squad that’s ready to compete, especially in a league that doesn’t look quite as stacked as it did in 2023/24.

In other Leeds United news, the club could be planning a triple signing before the transfer window closes.
