Leeds United fans won’t be happy with what Leicester City lawyers have done

Andy Goldstein believes that Leeds United fans won’t be happy after Leicester City lawyers exploited a loophole in the Premier League rules.

The league organisers weren’t able to punish the Foxes for their alleged financial breach as they had already been relegated to the Championship when their financial year ended [Premier League].

Given that the Whites missed out on promotion last year, while Enzo Maresca’s side won the Championship title, it has left a sour taste in the mouths of fans.

Speaking live on talkSPORT on 4 September, Goldstein has urged Leeds supporters to not blame Leicester.

He said: “They’ve obviously found a loophole. They’re not to blame, Leicester, I know that football fans, especially Everton, Leeds and Forest fans will be thinking.

“They’re not to blame, their lawyers have found a loophole and they’ve exploited that. If Everton, Leeds and Forest had found the same, believe me, they would have used it.”

Leeds United miss out on promotion amid Leicester City loophole

There is no guarantee that if the EFL or Premier League had opted to punish Leicester sooner Daniel Farke’s side would have earned promotion.

That hasn’t stopped supporters from considering the idea that they missed out on the top division despite amassing 90 points.

There is something to be said by way of praise to the Foxes to have exploited an issue with the division’s rules, taking advantage of being in a grey area between seasons.

This has enabled them to avoid a points deduction despite it being an unkept secret that they appear to have breached financial rules.

Leeds fans do not like Chelsea.

Although this may be the case, this won’t be any help to Leeds fans who feel mugged off by the organisers to have made such a glaring error.

This is especially the case given that Farke was somewhat forced into selling the likes of Archie Gray, Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville during the summer window.
