Leeds United fans will absolutely love what Micah Richards just said

Micah Richards was desperate to talk about Leeds United following their 1-1 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon.

The Whites almost put in a perfect away performance at Villa Park, but Tammy Abraham’s late equaliser ensured that the spoils were shared in the Midlands.

Leeds had been ahead for almost an hour after Anton Stach curled an outstanding long-range free kick into the top corner, midway through the first half.

However, with minutes left on the clock, Abraham levelled the contest, denying Daniel Farke’s side all three points.

Micah Richards believes Leeds will stay up

Leeds will be gutted that they didn’t manage to get over the line against Aston Villa, especially considering they limited the hosts to so few chances throughout the 90 minutes.

However, when looking at the bigger picture, it is still a vitally important point for the Whites in their fight for Premier League survival.

Farke’s side have now only lost two of their last 16 games across all competitions, stretching back to the start of December.

Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, former Manchester City defender Richards was eager to highlight just how good Leeds have been in recent months.

He said: “Can we talk about how good Leeds are, by the way?”

Richards also believes that the Elland Road outfit will have enough to avoid relegation.

Gary Lineker said: “Six points ahead of West Ham now, I think they (Leeds) will be alright, don’t you?”

Richards replied: “Yeah, they’ll be fine.”

What do Leeds need to do to avoid relegation?

After their draw with Aston Villa, Leeds have now picked up 31 points from 27 games.

They currently sit 15th in the table, and are six points clear of West Ham United, who occupy the final relegation spot.

Premier League table

The general rule is that 40 points will keep you up in the Premier League, and Leeds are currently on track to surpass that number.

If they continued at their current rate, picking up 1.15 points per game, they would end the season on 44 points.

In reality, if Farke’s side manages three wins from their final 11 matches of the season, as well as one or two draws, then it should be more than enough to keep them in the Premier League.
