Leeds United fans troll their own players after Elland Road incident as relegation confirmed
Guardian journalist, David Hynter has detailed how Leeds United fans trolled their own players with a chant after a pitch invader was removed by security personnel at Elland Road during the 4-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday (28 May).
On the final day of the Premier League season, the Whites’ fate was confirmed following another insipid performance as the three-year stay in the top flight came to an end.
The fans made their feelings known throughout the game with the board jokingly being told to sign up a pitch invader midway through the miserable afternoon.

In his match report for the Guardian, Hytner surveyed the scene at Elland Road as well as analysing the overall situation at the club.
“It was a desperate day for everyone connected to the club, heavy on recrimination, with only the occasional splashes of gallows humour,” he said.
“When a pitch invader was wrestled away in the 77th minute by a posse of security guards, there was a demand for the hierarchy to sign him up.
“He’s got more fight than you, was the follow‑up chant to the team.”

Predictable
The Leeds supporters did not have massive expectations for the visit of Spurs.
They wanted their team to fight to secure their first win since the 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest on 04 April but a reality check was delivered in just the second minute of the game, as another goal was conceded.
Sam Allardyce was helpless and frustrated on the sidelines as his team displayed their softness yet again, in the opening stages of the second half. The fan’s backlash was predictable as they vented their emotion and disappointment toward the players.
Big Sam could only manage a return of one point from a possible 12 as his appointment proved to be a moot point in the overall story of the season.
His arrival came far too late, to work with a squad that just wasn’t equipped to deal with the challenges of the Premier League and now the club is paying the consequences of poor decision-making.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign one 13-goal forward this summer after an impressive European season.
