Leeds United fans to love Nat Phillips as ‘underrated’ Liverpool player tipped for transfer

Leeds United supporters would love if Liverpool defender Nat Phillips moved to Elland Road this summer, according to journalist Neil Jones.

The former Goal and Liverpool Echo journalist noted that the Reds centre-back is “underrated” and would be a “reliable performer” in defence.

The Whites are interested in signing the Liverpool ace, with his current club wanting £10million for the player, as per The Athletic (27 June).

“Nat Phillips could also be one to watch and I think it’s probably the right time for him to leave – it was probably the right time last summer, to be honest,” Jones wrote for CaughtOffside.

“Leeds have been linked as well, and if I was a Championship team looking to get back into the Premier League, I’d definitely go for him as a reliable performer at centre-back.

“I think Leeds fans would warm to him – he’s that kind of no-nonsense, body-on-the-line kind of player that crowds love, he does the basics of defending well, and he’s underrated on the ball as well.”

Great addition

Phillips really would be a superb addition for Leeds as they look to bounce back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The Liverpool defender already boasts fantastic experience in that area, having helped Bournemouth get back into the top flight during his loan spell with the Cherries.

He also boasts plenty of Premier League and even Champions League experience, and that could go a long way at Elland Road next season, with the club really short on leaders on the pitch.

Their defensive issues were laid bare in the Premier League last time out, and while it shouldn’t be as much of a struggle this time around, the Whites know they are in for a battle week in, week out in the Championship.

The West Yorkshire outfit could be losing star centre-back Robin Koch this summer, and while he would be missed at the back, Phillips is a more than suitable replacement.

In other Leeds United news, one Whites star has told his friends he’s excited to exit Elland Road, with a loan-to-buy on the cards.
