Leeds United fan reaction to late Patrick Bamford appearance vs Middlesbrough from Elland Road South Stand – Graham Smyth

Leeds United fans reacted to Patrick Bamford’s late appearance vs Middlesbrough with a supportive chant about his newly-dyed hair, according to Graham Smyth.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist reported via Twitter on 2 December as the Whites striker replaced Georginio Rutter late in the 3-2 victory sporting a new look with bright blonde hair.

The 30-year-old has been under pressure of late following a missed penalty against Stoke City, after which there were some boos in the Elland Road crowd in the next game vs Huddersfield, and then a late offside call which wiped out Jaidon Anthony’s winner at Rotherham, but the support was behind him against Boro.

Smyth wrote: “‘Bamford scores, I die my hair’ sings the South Stand.”

Backing

Bamford hasn’t had the easiest time of it for Leeds United for some months and could arguably be accused of trying too hard to rectify some high-profile errors.

Nobody could suggest that the Englishman doesn’t care but his recent contributions have often had the wrong impact.

In a chaotic victory for Daniel Farke’s side on Saturday he was incredibly close to ended his scoring drought as he rose highest to power a strong header towards goal in the final minutes.

Unfortunately for him it proved to be straight at Seny Dieng who was able to parry it out and Joel Piroe couldn’t turn in the rebound.

With his new BBC podcast and now his loud hair it is clear that Bamford isn’t going to shy away from the spotlight despite criticism from some quarters.

But it sounds like the fans are back behind him after some had been unhappy with his miss from the spot at Stoke, and if he gets many more attempts at goal like the one that almost found the net against his former side this week he will surely be on the scoresheet again before long.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have been tipped to launch a new compensation claim as they appear set to back off Everton.
