Leeds United fan injured in incident outside Carrow Road as Norwich supporter arrested
A Norwich City fan has been arrested following an incident which left a Leeds United supporter with a neck wound outside Carrow Road, according to Adam Pope.
The BBC journalist reported via Twitter on 12 May after the goalless draw in the play-off semi-final first leg that a Whites fan was injured following the game.
Daniel Farke’s side head back to Elland Road for the Thursday return leg having kept a clean sheet in Norfolk, but an unsavoury issue has emerged following the final whistle.
Pope wrote: “I understand there was an incident after the game at Carrow Road where a Leeds United fan has received an injury to the neck that has bled. Not confirmed what caused the injury, possibly a can that has been thrown/used. One Norwich fan has been arrested.”
Leeds United supporter left bleeding after play-off clash
The play offs understandably raise tensions after a long Championship campaign, with the stakes about as high as they can be with Premier League promotion and the riches that come with it on the line.
However, it goes without saying that incidents between supporters that cause physical harm can’t be accepted in any fashion.
It appears there has already been a response if an arrest has been made so the hope has to be that the Leeds fan hasn’t been badly hurt and can make a quick recovery.
Farke did the double over his former club this season, having won the second tier twice as Canaries boss, but has seen his Whites team’s form fall apart at the crucial run-in.
A clean sheet on the road is a welcome return to defensive solidity having conceded seven in the two previous away games combined, including the disastrous 4-0 defeat at QPR on 26 April.
Despite a 2-1 loss to Southampton on the final day Leeds United have largely been excellent at home this term and know a one-goal win is all it takes to reach the Wembley final, while both clubs will hope for there to be no further issues in West Yorkshire after the incident this weekend.
