Leeds United fail to make ground in talks to sign Azzedine Ounahi - Sky Sports

Leeds United have held talks with Ligue 1 outfit Angers over the signing of midfielder Azzedine Ounahi – but they are understood to have failed to progress, according to Sky Sports.

The 22-year-old has been the hot topic of conversation throughout the January ket so far with the Whites submitting a bid [Telefoot, 8 January] to add him to his squad this month, due to his scintillating breakout performances at the World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

And according to Napoli magazine [17 January] the Yorkshire outfit was willing to pay £48k per week to the midfielder, which was considerably higher than the £28k per week figure Napoli offered.

Now latest developments could well spell bad news for the Leeds faithful. According to Sky Sports, as revealed on their Transfer Centre [17 January, 02:50pm], the club have failed to progress in talks for the talented midfielder.

Although, the Premier League outfit remains keen on bringing the player to Elland Road this month.

Keep Going

The latest developments relayed by Sky Sports will come as a cruel blow for Leeds United and their fans, especially considering the amazing talents and potential Ounahi possesses.

The 22-year-old has undergone a stunning upward trajectory through his scintillating performances at the World Cup in Qatar, showcasing the qualities that many of clubs in Europe will kill to possess.

The Whites could certainly do with a player of Ounahi’s ilk – the ability to progress the ball through the thirds with unerring dribbling and ball-carrying qualities.

Signing the 22-year-old would be a strong statement of intent and a major coup for the Whites’ hierarchy and it is why they must keep going in their pursuit of the midfielder and attempt to convince him that Elland Road is the ideal destination for him to continue his development.

Leeds sit in a precarious position in the Premier League table, in danger of another needless relegation battle, and Jesse Marsch will need all the quality he can get this month. Ounahi could well prove the difference maker in the club reaching the next level, tactically.
