Leeds United dealt transfer blow as deal agreed at Bristol Rovers

Leeds United have been dealt a transfer blow with rumoured target Kofi Shaw agreeing a new contract at Bristol Rovers.

As reported by Alan Nixon in September, Leeds were rumoured to have held an interest in the talented 17-year-old who has been tipped to have a big future.

However, any hope of concluding a deal seems minimal with Shaw agreeing on new terms that will see him remain at the League One club until 2027.

Bristol Rovers announced the deal in a post on their official X account (21 October).

Leeds United could have landed a gem in Kofi Shaw

Shaw has already earned plenty of plaudits at the age of 17 and despite only making four appearances this season, he has impressed.

A number of exciting prospects are coming through at Leeds

Traditionally operating as a winger, Shaw attracted interest from Premier League outfit Aston Villa as well as Leeds however the Gas have been able to fight off any potential exit for the youngster.

Shaw hasn’t found the net in league fixtures for Bristol Rovers however did score in their Bristol Street Motors Trophy encounter against Tottenham Hotspur’s Under-21 side that ultimately ended in defeat.

While unlikely he would have made any impact at Leeds if they secured his signature, his acquisition would have been a shrewd bit of business for the Whites who have demonstrated their ability to develop young players and show them a pathway into the first team.

As seen most noticeably with Archie Gray, now at Tottenham, who was able to break into the first team at a young age and thrive.

In other Leeds United news, Jermaine Pennant believes that Daniel Farke is the “perfect fit” for Leeds as they chase a return to the Premier League.
