Leeds United face competition from Southampton to sign James McAtee
Leeds United are facing strong competition from Southampton to sign Manchester City’s highly talented young midfielder James McAtee, according to The Daily Mail.
The newspaper reported in the printed edition on 19 June (page 147) that the 19-year-old could be used in the negotiation as a part of the deal for Kalvin Phillips.
The Whites are also interested in signing defensive midfielder Romeo Lavia from City.
The Athletic on 18 June also added that the Whites are willing to sign the young midfielder on loan or on a permanent deal.
Pep Guardiola doesn’t want to lose him, but Leeds have a great opportunity to sign him, provided they can use him as a part of the deal for Phillips.

The 19-year-old has been described by the newspaper as an “exciting” talent. He was named the Premier League 2 player of the year last season, but Southampton can be a big threat here.
The young midfielder scored 18 goals and provided seven assists for the club across 23 appearances last season, which reflects what a talent he is. He can grow into a top-class player in the future, if he is properly developed.
The fact that he can play in multiple positions may have attracted Jesse Marsch. He can operate as an attacking midfielder and also as a deep-lying playmaker.
In other Leeds United news, the club are chasing a top European goalscoring prospect who is available on a free.
