Leeds United eye summer transfer for Italy striker Mateo Retegui

Leeds United are reportedly among the clubs keen on securing the services of Tigre and Italy striker Mateo Retegui this summer.

According to RAI journalist Ciro Venerato, the Whites are not alone in the race as the likes of AC Milan, Inter Milan and Eintracht Frankfurt are keen on signing him as well.

Inter have already spoken to the Italian’s representatives but do not have the funds needed to seal the transfer right now.

Venerato told Area Napoli, “Yes, I can confirm that Eintracht Frankfurt is on Retegui’s trail also because Kolo Muani will leave.

“Leeds and the two Milan teams are also keen on the player. Inter has come forward for the player, speaking to both the player and the striker.

“There is only one small problem: the Nerazzurri management, at the moment, does not yet have the money to buy the striker.”

Headline maker

While Retegui is not a household name in England, he’s made headlines in Italy already and is perhaps viewed as the leading striker of the current generation.

During the recent international break, Roberto Mancini made a call that caused a stir in the media by picking the 23-year-old.

The former Manchester City manager left out players like Andrea Belotti, Ciro Immobile and Moise Kean to pick the Tigre striker.

Willy Gnonto was also picked ahead of them and while they lost to England, both players justified their inclusion in the side.

It remains to be seen if Leeds do end up going for another striker in the summer as there’s really no need with the current crop of players.

However, if Patrick Bamford or Rodrigo leave then perhaps they will look to enter the market and bring in a proven goal scorer.

In other Leeds United news, a teenager now looks closer than ever to his debut after what he did at Thorp Arch during the international break with Javi Gracia taking note.
