Leeds United eye move for Man Utd midfield talent James Garner

Leeds United are interested in a”shock” swoop to sign young Manchester United talent James Garner, according to The Sun.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed a sparkling form this season, impressing on loan with Championship side Nottingham Forest.

The report claims that the Whites want to sign the midfield talent permanently as he is viewed as one of the top academy graduates at Old Trafford.

Southampton are also interested in his signature.

The Sun adds that Man United could allow the young talent to move out on loan to a Premier League club to gain more exposure “but they may have serious cash offers to consider.”

Difficult

Garner has a long-term contract at Old Trafford and it looks really tough for Leeds to pull off the deal.

Despite the rivalry between the two clubs, it seems Jesse Marsch is keen to sign the midfielder with a tempting cash bid, provided he can keep Leeds in the Premier League.

The Whites appear to sign the youngster directly as they did last summer for Dan James, who finally secured a move to Elland Road after Marcelo Bielsa had chased him for years.

The midfield is one area where the Whites really need to bolster, irrespective of whether Kalvin Phillips stays or goes in the summer.

Given his success in the Championship, Garner could be a smart choice, but the Whites should look at some other experienced profiles.

Marsch is known for his commitment to developing youth talents, something he addressed in his first press conference as well, and he might think he can develop Garner into a top player in the future.

In other Leeds United news, Jesse Marsch shares a ‘fearless’ view on his players.
