Leeds United eye January deal for Salernitana midfielder Lassana Coulibaly
Leeds United are interested in signing Salernitana midfielder Lassana Coulibaly as Jesse Marsch looks to add to his midfield options, according to Sportitalia.
It’s understood the Yorkshire side along with Nottingham Forest made a “timid” approach for the 26-year-old defensive midfielder (Sport Italia, 13 January).
However, it’s believed the Serie A club have rebuffed the initial interest from both Premier League sides for the Mali international, with Coulibaly contracted until the summer of 2026.
It’s clear Marsch is desperate to add another midfielder to his ranks and it will be intriguing to see whether the board will back the manager again in January window.
Leeds are about to complete the club-record signing of Hoffenheim striker Georginio Rutter and have already added Max Wober in the January window.
Wober appears to be the left-back cover Marsch was after and that could lead to the American turning his attention elsewhere. With Tyler Adams and Marc Roca as his current midfielder options, a more forward-thinking player could well be what he is looking for.
The Athletic’s Phil Hay has suggested (Phil Hay Show, 26m 41s, 13 January) that Leeds are considering a move for Azzedine Ounahi after the Moroccan midfielder starred at the World Cup in Qatar.
With a large amount of money being spent, and the majority of the squad now players Marsch wanted at the club, it’s time for him to find a consistent run of performances from his squad.
In other Leeds United news, an imminent striker signing could be bad news for this Elland Road fan favourite.
