Leeds United expected to make one last-ditch attempt to keep Kalvin Phillips
Leeds United are expected to make one “last ditch” attempt to keep Kalvin Phillips at Elland Road amidst growing interest from Manchester City, according to The Sun.
90min reported on 3 June that Pep Guardiola is preparing a bid for the England man with the Manchester City boss looking to replace Fernandinho who has returned to Brazil.
However, The Sun has claimed on Sunday 12 June, that Leeds are expected to make one last play by offering their key man a new bumper contract.
Tense few weeks
The Sun also revealed on 8 June that City are set to ramp up their interest once the England midfielder has returned from international duty.
News of City’s growing interest in Phillips will come as a huge blow for Whites’ fans as they will know that when City come knocking, there is usually little standing in their way.
Any last-ditch contract offer will be easily trumped by City.
At this point, there needs to be an acceptance that the Leeds defender is likely to move on this summer.
As long as he doesn’t end up in a Manchester United shirt then Leeds fans will be happy.
It will be hard to begrudge Phillips a move away from Leeds regardless of the excellent early transfer business that has taken place at Elland Road.
Phillips is a Champions League quality player and has earnt the chance to be given a shot at the very top of the game.
He has been a stalwart at Leeds for a number of years so they can be no question of the dedication the midfielder has displayed to the club.
It is time for him to move and for the club to reinvest into the squad adequately.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are on the verge of another new signing for Marsch’s senior side.
