Leeds United expect Manchester City to table bid for Kalvin Phillips

Leeds United are reportedly expecting Manchester City to table a summer bid for English midfielder Kalvin Phillips this summer.

According to LeedsLive reporter Beren Cross, the Whites have not received an offer for Phillips or Raphinha yet, but expect that to change soon.

Txiki Begiristain, City’s director of football, has not spoken to Victor Orta yet, but is expected to make contact soon as the Citizens’ interest in the 26-year-old appears to be genuine.

He also took to Twitter to write, “Still no bids in for either Raphinha or Phillips as yet, despite all of the noise. Some expectation inside Elland Road an offer’s coming down the line from Man City for the latter, however.”

Unsettling the player

City are looking to unsettle Leeds and Phillips by leaking stories to the press about their intentions this summer.

With Fernandinho gone, the Citizens need a midfielder who can give them control in the middle of the park and have thus identified the 26-year-old as the ideal man for it.

The £25k-a-week player [Times] could be tempted to leave as not only will they challenge for the Premier League, they will compete in the Champions League every season.

He knows that Pep Guardiola will not rest until he wins Europe’s top honour there and the team that manages to win their first Champions League will go down in history.

It remains to be seen if this lure is enough for Phillips to leave as there certainly will be discussions once an official bid is tabled.

These are still early days in the window and we’re expecting something significant to happen sooner rather than later.
